December 18, 2006 As I sit here putting the final touches on our new website, I find myself feeling - somewhat awkwardly - emotionally attached to the old one. We've had the same website design for as long as OtB has been in existence. When I consider the prospect of removing those files in lieu of the new superfly edition, I feel like I'm somehow removing the memories attached to those images. For more than a fleeting moment, that sadness sticks with me. However, I recall something my dad said that also stuck with me: "A life changed is still a life changed." It may sound too obviouis to be profound, but the context really settles me. My dad said this within the context of an event or project that comes to an unexpected end. We must remember that the impact that the event or project had during its life still holds true. Death does not remove the impact of life. I'm sure it would be too bold to assume any lives were changed by the old website, but all the same, that thought somehow comforts me to know that a new design does not detract a single moment of communicative impact the old website offered in its day. So, I hope ya'll enjoy the new website. Personally, I look forward to the irrational emotional attachment to this one as well. ~ Ryan P.S. Perhaps it sheds a little light on this post to know that I also listen to old CDs, read dusty books, and open unused drawers because I think they might be lonely and feel unloved. Hmm.
